@Meat_Paul Even including what the signs will look like and where they’d be placed would have helped I think to help visualise it in-situ. I would have also included sample journeys. For example, getting from east Church St to Islington or Finsbury Park or from the library to Clapton.

@Meat_Paul I think it could have explained better and more visually than just produce a fairly busy map with colour coded zones, leafs signifying filters etc. I genuinely think so people don’t understand it, which makes it easier to latch onto misinformation: “Church St is closing!! Ahhh!!”

If you need to driver to a shop between Lordship Road and the High St or Lordship Road and Green Lanes you can still do it 24/7, just need to consider which way you’re coming from. If you make multiple delivers in the area than ‘yes’, it may require a detour.

@thenewlove I agree that many of the comments against the plans seem happy to continue with the status quo and at times seem to take a rather selfish view, which considers only their needs and preferences. Human nature.

@thenewlove Someone suggested limiting deliveries to bulk items only for example but then some people may end driving to buy the smaller items so overall it may be better to have vans doing it as many of the items I suspect aren’t within a walking or cycling distance.

@thenewlove I totally get that :) just putting the arguments and points of view I’m reading from some as in my view some are legitimate grievances and concerns that cannot be brushed aside and dismissed easily.

@thenewlove But in the case of a Bus Gate and LTN filter it’s not a cycle lane as it’ll prevent them from accessing certain roads, either permanently or during the day. Knowing that everyone else will be diverted down the same few roads could mean congested, polluting roads eg Manor Road.

@thenewlove They may not be the problem but they’ll be impacted nonetheless. I get why for some of them being told “take a bus, walk or cycle” can come across easily as condescending, not to mention it’s not practical. They have every right to be upset, but overall may be a small group.

@thenewlove Also, I get the impression that for people for example that live in Lordship Park and Manor Road, given considerable traffic will be diverted their way, even if some people reduce their car journeys, overall it still won’t make much difference to them given the overall increase

@thenewlove Out of interest what would you say to people who depend on their vehicle for their livelihood to transport work equipment for example? Some comment that other means of transport isn’t an option for them so they are understandably angry and frustrated by the upcoming restrictions.

@thenewlove I’ve observed quite a bit of “the cycling newcomers won’t tell me where and when I can drive”. Also, some dismiss the legitimacy of the measures claiming strongly it has nothing to do with pollution and is motivated purely by the money the council will generate from issuing fines

@cmtlr @GE0RGYGIRL By the way, there was some objection to the filters that were installed a few months ago in Allen Road, Nevill Road and Clonbrock Road and afterwards as far as I can tell at least it all got very quiet.

@GE0RGYGIRL My sense is that 95% of locals who become aware of a consultation in their area don’t engage with it and will only get vocal and on Facebook and Twitter after a decision has been made. Those also seem to often mistake consultation for a referendum when it is not. It’s not a vote.

@cmtlr @supalara The point about the GP at the top of Albion Rd is that between 7am-7pm if you are east of the Bus Gate and coming from the A10 and nearby streets you’ll need to get to Albion Rd all the way from Newington Green or Lordship Park to Green Lanes and then Church St (west)

@gjyevans Why would they need to park somewhere other then where they park now? According the plan the difference is how they’ll be able to get to those parking area as there’s going to be an LTN filter at Lordship Terrace/Lordship Road.

@cmtlr @RosedaleAction Same question. The Bus Gate and LTN filters don’t restrict access, only mean it takes everyone longer in some cases to get to their destination. By everyone, I mean anyone in a car.

@otis_bedding @Stokebrewington You had to know an area well before Google Maps/GPS to know how you can to cut through side streets. Looks like in recent years GPS-enabled rat-running has made the situation far worse. That said, wouldn’t have considered driving through Church St rat-running.

@otis_bedding @Stokebrewington Using ANPR and check the address of every car that passes to determine if it breaches the LTN filter? Informing in a sign to drivers which ones are allowed (living in a list of allowed streets) doesn’t sound practical. Maybe it’s just me :)

@otis_bedding The point as I understand it that a lot of cars do cut across between Albion Road and the High St so the idea behind the LTN is to eliminate rat-running through these areas. The new Bus Gate will also mean Church St isn’t an option during the day, so BIG change. Let’s see.

@RosedaleAction Yes. To get Barton House if you are east of the A10 you’ll need to drive down to Crossway, make your way up Matthias Road, Newington Green and up Albion Road. No way to cut through anywhere else between Church St and Crossway.

Streets north of Church St won’t be accessible from Church St, only from Lordship Park and Manor Road. That’s the whole point it seems.

@BletchleySam @StokeyLTN @nookshop_uk @spencebakery That’s the only option as far as I can tell. The whole logic of creating the five neighbourhoods around Church St is that cars that use the side streets go to those streets mainly, rather than use Church St.

@toosweet2b Not true. Cars aren’t banned during the day. Cars can drive only along half of the street from each direction till the Bus Gate that’s in the middle. This means Church St isn’t an option to get from west to east, east to west, and is used in the day only to access side streets.

It’s also a narrow street to deal with all the U-turn traffic from Church St > Lordship Rd > Lordship Terrace

@StokeyLTN The streets between Queen Elizabeth’s Walk, Lordship Terrace, Bouverie Road, Lordship Park and Manor Road will no longer be accessible from Church St if I understand it correctly, which is a huge change. Access only from Lordship Park and Manor Road.

@StokeyLTN Also, it looks like the message is that any vehicle entering Church St from the High St between 7am-7pm can only drive to the streets between Ayrsome Rd and Dynevor Rd. There’s nowhere else you can go because of the filters in Nevill Rd, Oldfield Rd, Yoakley Rd and Bouverie Rd.

@StokeyLTN Interesting to note that Edward’s Lane will become southbound rather than northbound and that the narrow section of Lordship Road east of the Red Lion won’t be accessible to vehicles. It’s a massive change. Look forward to seeing how it works over the coming months.
