@StokeyLTN It’s gone quiet though as far as updates from the council about the Stoke Newington LTNs and Bus Gate. I was hoping for more frequent updates, especially regarding traffic and air quality levels. Hopefully not long now.
Fri 19 Nov 2021 · 10:39Reply
@FurtiveSalmon @Ebirdcards @Roger89835988 Traffic levels are being monitored and initial stats were shared by the council during a public meeting after the first 3 weeks and I hope an update is coming soon. Will be interesting to see what the data indicates as people’s experiences are subjective.
Fri 19 Nov 2021 · 10:18Reply
@FurtiveSalmon @Ebirdcards @Roger89835988 It’ll be only 2 months tomorrow since the Bus Gate and 5 new LTNs were introduced. In an ETO, consultation happens in the first 6 months while it implemented to enable people to experinece it and not comment about something theoretical they haven’t experienced. Let’s see.
Fri 19 Nov 2021 · 10:13Reply
@FurtiveSalmon @Ebirdcards @Roger89835988 The plan is to make an assessment after 18 months once the ETO (Experimental Traffic Order) ends and see if that actually happned or not. Whether some businesses will manage to hold on till then is a different matter.
Fri 19 Nov 2021 · 10:10Reply
@FurtiveSalmon @Ebirdcards @Roger89835988 As I understand it, the vision of the people behind the scheme is that people will make the journey just using other means instead of driving such as buses etc. Or they may prefer to shop more locally and not make the journey at all where possible. That’s at least the vision.

@Ebirdcards Anything about the scheme you’d suggest changing to help things? Or would any measure that limits restricts and reduced traffic in the area will always be considered undesirable as far as you’re concerned? Thanks.
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 08:17Reply
@Ebirdcards I understand that and am keen to hear and learn about the impact. Surprised to learn such significant number of your customers would drive, and more specifically west of the Bus Gate, for greetings cards. Not quite the niche business I imagined people drive to. Thanks again.
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 08:07Reply
@Ebirdcards Sorry, I don’t follow. People who would drive through church st used to stop and shop or people driving, parking somewhere and walking along church st don’t do it now in your view because of the road closures? Thanks.
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 08:05Reply
@Ebirdcards @Roger89835988 Didn’t expect to hear that much of your trade come from west of the Bus Gate by vehicle. As the scheme is intended to encourage people to shop locally rather than drive to shops, I really hope you’ll see things improving once driving becomes less convenient for short journeys
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 07:56Reply
@Ebirdcards Could anything be tweaked with the current scheme in your opinion to help improve things for you as a local business? Thanks.
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 07:55Reply
@Ebirdcards Where would driving customers typically park out of curiosity? Wilmer Place carpark?
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 07:53Reply
@Ebirdcards Thanks. That’s interesting to hear. My perception was that the majority of your customers are locals within a relative walking or cycling distance, as well as bus given your location so close to the High St. Surprised to learn some customers drive to you.
Thu 18 Nov 2021 · 07:23Reply

@HighburyPenguin @Stokebrewington Google Maps were informed but their maps are affected by actual driver behaviour, meaning those who drive through the Bus Gate between 7am-7pm. Anyone can submit Google Maps corrections if they spot an error/issue with any map.
Wed 17 Nov 2021 · 13:15Reply
@HighburyPenguin @Stokebrewington Well, the councils put a LOT of road signs up and inform mapping services. They cannot plan local government policy and strategy around the mapping algorithm of one company surely.

@HighburyPenguin Google Maps keeps ignoring the Bus Gate because too many people drive through it when it’s active. I just did this test. People shouldn’t follow a mapping app blindly but most of us do I believe. Saying “Google told me” won’t win you an appeal though. https://t.co/KzVSPugFCl
Wed 17 Nov 2021 · 07:27Reply
@HighburyPenguin If you are referring to the signs stating the enforcement cameras are active, they were temporary and quite irrelevant really as people should follow road signs regardless of whether there’s a camera present to ‘catch’ them. Plenty of advance warning signs ahead of the Bus Gate.

Interesting to see the emerging results so far after 172 votes. Of the 74% who are in favour of the Church St Bus Gate and LTNs, 13% were originally against them and have changed their mind. Of the 26% who are against them, 6% were originally in favour of the scheme 6 weeks ago. x.com/StokeyUpdates/…

@RosedaleAction If the 2-way is ever reintroduced it’ll only apply to buses and cyclists according to the last plan at least from a few years ago

@kayfourbee @Roger89835988 @TfL Thanks. Didn’t think of the 1 vs. 2 way aspect.
