@carvalhoCAP @TobyCrick Interesting. Thanks.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 22:54Reply
@carvalhoCAP @TobyCrick Despite the many warning signs on either side of the Bus Gate, my conclusion from observing drivers going through it when they shouldn’t is that it’s such an unexpected feature in the middle of the road “out of nowhere” that despite the signs some drivers don’t really notice it.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 22:50Reply
@carvalhoCAP @TobyCrick The gap is THAT wide or are some cars THAT narrow?? I didn’t think it was that wide when I saw the row of bollards just the other day.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 22:48Reply
@TobyCrick The gap between the bollards is about a metre at best. I was there today. What kind of vehicle did you see get in between them??? Some mopeds bypass the filters on the pavements or through estates. No idea what enforcement can be placed to deter that from happening. Do you?
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 21:14Reply
@TobyCrick What enforcement would you expect beyond the enforcement camera that issues £130 fine to every driver who drives through the filter?

@RobbieGardiner1 I’m aware of the development of the former Swan, but have you seen any formal confirmation about the Turnpike House and the Bird Cage? (@realnickperry)
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 18:25Reply
@MisfitsWorld20 @realnickperry Pubs do close and in some cases get converted, which is why I really hope that’s not going to be the case here. The Bird Cage isn’t in one of my preferred pubs in the area but I’d hate to see it lost for good.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 18:12Reply
@MisfitsWorld20 As I understand from @realnickperry, selling the pub so it can be used as something else will require a compelling case.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:52Reply
@danhoward01 Finally, the point of LTNs is to make driving less convenient in the short-mid term to force people who get stuck in traffic or make longer journeys to consider alternative options. Some people don’t believe in “Traffic Evaporation” in the long-term but that’s the goal anyway.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:51Reply
@MisfitsWorld20 That would be the current business but it doesn’t mean the building itself is necessarily going to be repurposed and turned into a restaurant for example. Pubs are protected so a very strong and compelling case would need to be made for the pub to be converted to something else.

@danhoward01 My experience of Lordship Park and Manor Road both as a driver and pedestrian is that they are not “chocked up” and are only slightly busier during rush hour when they were busier than normal anyway. Point being, not every boundary road is “choked up” as Northwold Rd may be.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:45Reply
@danhoward01 1 to 5 ratio? Counting roughly the number of streets in the LTNs compared to the number of resulting boundary roads I personally don’t think that’s the case. Also, despite the significant 40% increase you mentioned, that figure seems unusual compared to other boundary roads.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:34Reply
@bjornksandberg Be that as it may, and I agree the last renovation has damaged the pub, it’s nonetheless a Victorian pub which has been there for decades so will be a great shame to lose it.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:27Original
Anyone has any update on whether the Bird Cage is expected to ever reopen as a pub? I’m worried it may at the very least remain boarded up for a few years. x.com/WhitneyQueue/s…
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:25Reply
@danhoward01 Ultimately scientists that actually studied and went through the data concluded that despite the misconception some people propagate about LTN streets being mainly “posh”, in reality that simply isn’t the case, as inconvenient as some may find that conclusion.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 17:17Reply
@danhoward01 Read it first, even just the article. Don’t know what “nicer” roads has anything to do with it. London streets are VERY mixed, boundary and LTN roads. Lordship Park has very handsome double-fronted houses and Manor Rd has 3-storey Victorian houses as well as housing blocks.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 16:58Reply
@danhoward01 Thank you.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 16:54Reply
@danhoward01 What is that theory actually based on? Have you spoken to any of the social housing residents in LTNed estates such as Yorkshire Grove Estate, Hawksley Court Estate and Lordship South Estate not to mention many people that rent properties to conclude they are against LTN?
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 16:51Reply
@danhoward01 Where’s that 40% figure from by the way? Have yet to see monitoring data of a boundary road with such high increase.
Sun 30 Jan 2022 · 16:47Reply
@danhoward01 Only that an academic research which examined 400 LTNs concluded the exact opposite of your theory. “Data dispels myth that low-traffic neighbourhoods are disproportionately found in privileged areas” theguardian.com/world/ng-inter…

300 votes so far and the split is 70/30 (70% in favour of the LTN) like in all the other polls on the topic I ran in recent months. @LDLDN @metecoban92 How many people is this “qualitative assessment” based on? How was it conducted? Sentiment expressed by some people on a Facebook for example? We all have our subjective opinions but I wouldn’t use that to claim with confidence as you did there’s a “significantly less” anything.
Fri 28 Jan 2022 · 17:32Reply
@LDLDN @metecoban92 My point is that to me anyway, Church St always felt quite dead during weekdays and especially in the winter. Nothing new about that. I never felt it was as buzzing as the High St, which is expected given the type of shops. Now there are simply less cars during the day as well.
Fri 28 Jan 2022 · 17:29Reply
@LDLDN @metecoban92 Which businesses are you referring to? Only one closed recently, Pictures & Light, and we don’t know the circumstances so I wouldn’t jump to any conclusion about the reason why it closed. “Significantly less” would be a personal, subjective observation, without supporting data

@LDLDN @metecoban92 ‘Dead’ = less cars or less people in shops, pubs and restaurants? @GE0RGYGIRL @Roger89835988 @metecoban92 @ClissoldLabour I think the signage could be improved and have highlighted that since day 1 :) it won’t solve for drivers not looking at sign, not knowing that to make of the signs or blindly following a nav app but I do think and see that overall daytime traffic in Church St is very low
Tue 11 Jan 2022 · 21:30Reply
@GE0RGYGIRL @Roger89835988 @metecoban92 @ClissoldLabour Because once you turn into Church St beyond Albion Road your only way to avoid the Bus Gate is Woodlea Rd or Lordship Rd. The right turn was always there obviously and there’s less traffic in Church St overall during the day now so I’d think use of it is fairly minimal overall.
