@Microlambert @RantyHighwayman Given this particular one is where there’s no vehicle access to/from Lordship Rd making that section of the pavement along Church St continuous, as a blended crossing is meant to be, made even more sense than the other spots in the street. Those one are level with the pavement.

@BySigmarYes @juliannemarriot Yes they can, from the other end. All the addresses are accessible by vehicle but the road is access only which means that you can’t drive through it to get to a different street, but can access the road just fine if you live there, make a delivery, dropping someone off etc.
Fri 26 Aug 2022 · 10:53Reply
@BySigmarYes @juliannemarriot Which is what exactly? If you believe that car usage needs to be reduced (somehow) and that side streets should not remain popular cut-through-roads thanks to Google Maps and Waze then you’re more likely to accept the need to change driving habits for the greater good.
Fri 26 Aug 2022 · 10:34Reply
@BySigmarYes @juliannemarriot Finally, I’m sure a lot of people weren’t too happy about the smoking ban in 2007, yet here we are after 15 years. Not everyone is going to happy with a big change that takes getting used to and requires people to do things differently.
Fri 26 Aug 2022 · 10:28Reply
@BySigmarYes @juliannemarriot Also, a third of car journeys in London according to a TfL study in 2015 are less than 2 miles. Making driving inconvenient is meant to get people to think twice before getting into a car, if the journey is relatively short and they are able to use other options for that journey.
Fri 26 Aug 2022 · 10:24Reply
@BySigmarYes @juliannemarriot There are no bollards in the Stoke Newington LTNs. There’s been a huge increase in traffic through side streets in the last 10 years due to the use of Satnavs (60%+) so making those streets access only so they can’t be a cut-through is sensible..depending who you ask of course.

Tue 23 Aug 2022 · 11:19Reply
@RussellGowers @citycyclists Is that really the case? This is a very common sight in Stoke Newington in Hackney. There are only 14 cycle hire parking bays in Stoke Newington, which aren’t even visible in the Lime app as far as I’m aware. It’s a dockless service. Parking bay = Docking bay. https://t.co/quyyWnZXth
Tue 23 Aug 2022 · 10:17Reply
@spk_n16 Yes. I don’t get it. In almost every case where you see a Lime dumped in the middle of the pavement it could very easily have been parked more considerately.
Tue 23 Aug 2022 · 09:47Reply
@Limmmao There are no cycle hire parking bays between Church St and Newington Green bordered by Albion Road and the A10. That’s a large residential area that includes Butterfield Green. If you Lime from/to that area, parking in a cycle hire bay means a walk most would avoid in my view. https://t.co/WwXTfLgCEA

@AkashMapara @kate_revere Three-point turn :) it’s just opposite the entrance to the car park so only place you can do that especially vans. I noticed quite a few drivers do that to avoid the Bus Gate rather than follow the Exit Route and do a long U-turn via Lordship Terrace and Edward’s Lane.
Wed 17 Aug 2022 · 12:48Reply
@AkashMapara @kate_revere Yes, I suspect it’s to allow for three-point turn there, especially for large vehicles. That’s been a consideration in other sections of the street where pavement widening was a possibility.

@HackneyLFUG @okwithmydecay @clissoldpeople @hackneycouncil I think someone shared a screenshot from Lime that shows the bikes and the parking bays so easy to easy compare. Clearly, despite what Lime tell its customers to do, the reality is you don’t see clusters of available bikes only around parking bays.
Tue 16 Aug 2022 · 20:46Reply
@okwithmydecay @HackneyLFUG @clissoldpeople @hackneycouncil Might as well ask people to park them at any bike stand and have more of them around. Comparing where the bays are with where people actually park is quite telling. https://t.co/z23HO78Fuk

@okwithmydecay @HackneyLFUG @clissoldpeople @hackneycouncil I think the flexibility and freedom to ride to your destination, also a matter of safety for some when riding late at night, will always win. Tue 16 Aug 2022 · 06:33Reply
@thenewlove @iambrianjones This is where Lime and the council expect Lime riders to park in Stoke Newington, with the bays being the only place allowed in Hackney to park a Lime. Awareness of this among riders seems to me to be very low, as is the enforcement by Lime. Not surprising. https://t.co/YSwPrhcFSg

@thenewlove @iambrianjones Yes. The ones hardly anyone is using as many Lime bikes are dumped on pavements. @n0ra_bee @metecoban92 @hackneycouncil They possibly cannot handle the flood of reports their staff needs to review so they put a limit. It also means they’ll upset fewer of their customers that don’t park the bike in a cycle hire parking bays as they should and there are a LOT of those.
Sun 14 Aug 2022 · 14:55Reply
@HackneyLFUG @limebike @hackneycouncil @metecoban92 I think this reporting model is flawed. A rider can claim rightly that someone moved the bike after they left it properly. How can you prove that’s not the case? It’s not like with a car sharing service. Lime wouldn’t want to have to deal with disputes and upset customers.
Sun 14 Aug 2022 · 14:48Reply
@HackneyLFUG @limebike @hackneycouncil @metecoban92 They wouldn’t want to upset their customers with fines when they dump a bike, because having to park in a bay goes against the whole concept of a dockless bike hire service. @HUChrisLL Riders may get fined only if someone reports them via the app, and I seriously doubt most users of the service report on one another. What’s the incentive? If you don’t report a dirty Zipcar, the next user can blame you for it so you’re motivated to report when you pick it up.
Sun 14 Aug 2022 · 12:24Reply
@HUChrisLL What sort of thing? Park a car sharing vehicle in the middle of the pavement or road for that matter? The contract the council has with Lime is that bikes have to always be parked in the bays. That’s how they got the contract. Whether that’s realistic is a very different matter
Sat 13 Aug 2022 · 22:48Reply
@bambury_jack What ‘land grab’ about paying to use a section of the public pavement if it’s been assessed there’s sufficient space for pedestrians and the business? Are you against the use by any business of any part of a pavement irrespective of size?
Sat 13 Aug 2022 · 22:39Reply
@bambury_jack You do realise that businesses that want to use the pavement need to get a Shop Front Trading Licence, pay for the use of the pavement IF a licence is granted once the council is satisfied there’s enough room on the pavement
Sat 13 Aug 2022 · 18:58Reply
@elekuentz I don’t use Lime. I rely on people who do use it to share what’s visible or not visible in the app. Some commented they don’t know where the parking bay are through the app. Still, cannot imagine people planning a Lime journey based on the parking bays. Do you? :)

@CharadesForNil I agree. Also, the mindset of a dockless service is essentially “dump it wherever mate”. I seriously doubt many riders start a journey and have a parking bay in mind as a destination. Still, I can’t help thinking that expecting everyone using a Lime bike in Stoke Newington to always park in one of them is rather naive. Hopefully more in the future! https://t.co/4aKSnHhB9j

@StokeyLTN @RantyHighwayman @metecoban92 As there are parking bays in Oldfield Rd between Sandbrook Rd and Kynaston Rd I never understood why planters were also needed there as there’s a a ‘No Through Road’ sign in place. Was confusing I suspect. The filter is still in place and you can drive up to it to park there.

@HackneyLFUG @limebike @hackneycouncil @metecoban92 Expecting people using a dockless bike service to park in a parking bay, which is effectively a docking bay, is wholly unrealistic. @SophieCam @jonburkeUK @BBCLondonNews I can only think of these 4 parking bays in Stoke Newington (west of the A10). I don’t expect anyone using a Lime bike in the area to park there, and we cannot have a bay in every street either Beatty Road/SN Rd

Woodlea Rd/Church St

@SophieCam @jonburkeUK @BBCLondonNews Thank you. So where does that leave things then with Lime bikes dumped everywhere? Have yet to hear of anyone who was fined to parking a bike outside a bay, and there are only a handful of bays in Stoke Newington so I totally get why many people leave a bike on a pavement.

No worries. Let’s move on.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:29Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley Enjoy :) if the issue is known but cannot be resolved at present, that’s fine. I haven’t seen any response to suggest that’s the case, the matter is considered closed and we can all move on from this pain point people keep raising.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:24Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley I didn’t claim anyone was refusing to make the change and I’m very sympathetic to the technical challenges and limitations. I was merely highlighting a problem that may not be appreciated and suggested a solution. That’s all.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:21Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley I suspect the booking system is a service the council is using and cannot edit beyond certain screens. If the supplier of the booking system isn’t able or willing to make the change to provide a better product to its (paying?) customers i.e. the council, then that’s the end of it
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:19Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley But surely the issue isn’t the people that do book, it’s all the ones that try, end up being told “Not available!“ thinking there’s a problem with the site and may give up after a few attempts. A clearer message will help ensure they know when to try again.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:17Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley Indeed, though many people are also commenting that the response page when no slots are available isn’t helpful and leads to understandable frustration so if someone can edit the text there, I still think it’s worth doing.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:16Reply
@clissoldpeople @graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley Unless there’s a technical limitation and the shouty ‘Not available!’ page cannot be edited if it’s an external app, a more user friendly text should appear when no slots are available after you press BOOK NOW. Most people I suspect just click the button and don’t read the text.
Thu 11 Aug 2022 · 12:10Reply
@graemebulcraig @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney @carowoodley @clissoldpeople It’s a very user-Unfriendly design that’s trying to say “Hello! No slots are available at the moments. @milohill I wonder though what’s the incentive to do that. Educate your fellow Lime members? When you get a Zipcar you can report if it’s not clean, because then you know the mess won’t be pinned on you potentially by the next member using the car. Picking up a bike is a different story.

I don’t think it’s practical to rely on people reporting dumped bikes as someone can rightly claim they parked properly and someone moved the bike afterwards. Seriously doubt Lime would want to get into resolving people disputing fines for not parking ‘properly’. x.com/StokeyUpdates/…

You can access Church St from the High St just fine as before 24/7 and if you are coming from Islington and need to get to east Stoke Newington you need to use Lordship Park and Manor Road for example or Crossway.

@clissoldpeople @carvalhoCAP People see a BIG button with BOOK NOW, they press it :) most won’t read the text below it most likely. Having it so prominent is great as it’s very easy to locate, but as a result people will click it instantly. I’d have the same text when you click it if there are no sessions.
Wed 03 Aug 2022 · 13:22Reply
@clissoldpeople @carvalhoCAP But you still get the empty shouty page when you try and book. Either the book button should be disabled if you cannot actually book or removed completely ideally, or a helpful message is provided to explain why you cannot book when you click. Basic UX design.

@carvalhoCAP @clissoldpeople I do wish they provide a user-friendly message explaining that tickets aren’t available till future sessions are scheduled rather the shouty, unhelpful default page that was most likely put together in a few seconds as a placeholder. @TheFreedomBBQ @hackneycouncil The paddling pool was decommissioned as it was very expensive to maintain and require 6 hours to fill. It had to be emptied and cleaned often due to broken glass or “accidents”. Add to that the fact it was 90 years-old, the decision was taken to take it out of use.

@SLH68141003 @Christo28907011 My question was how many options you consider an acceptable number as you pointed out there’s usually ‘one sad option. The % shows that indeed while everyone can eat vegan, at present a very small minority actually does. Shouldn’t the menus reflect that % more or less?
Mon 01 Aug 2022 · 11:56Reply
@stokeywheels @SophieCam The whole point of Lime is that it’s dockless and you have the flexibility and freedom to get to your destination and drop the bike wherever. Restricting riders to park in a dedicated parking bay is the exact opposite of that value proposition. A parking bay = docking spot.

The second Stoke Newington LTN monitoring data report is due next month, a year after the Bus Gate and 5 filters were installed. The third and final report will be published in March 2023 at the end of the 18 month trial period of the ETO (Experimental Traffic Order).

@stuartwilks @RantyHighwayman The transformation of the street since Sep 20th 2021 has been astounding with a quiet, pleasant weekend vibe throughout the week. Mon 01 Aug 2022 · 08:18Reply
@RantyHighwayman @Roger89835988 Another plus of narrowing the road at the Bus Gate is that vehicles are more likely to slow down for drivers to read the signs as some today seem to drive blindly through it (possibly just following satnav that somehow isn’t aware of the bus gate)
