New vandal proof LTN enforcement camera is being installed in Oldfield Rd. The one that was fixed to a lamppost further down opposite Sandbrook Rd was constantly tampered with. https://t.co/EDtjPc0Tz2

Stoke Newington High St is rarely like this in the evening in my experience. Such disruption is seen when there’s the odd roadworks or traffic collision every few months or so. Framing this footage as if it’s a daily occurrence is really silly and disingenuous. x.com/tony_taxiT/sta…

@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 Not disputing the points you raise and as far as I can remember, I’m always told of the 2 hour limit when making a booking in a pub for Sunday. I just didn’t think the time limit should have come as a surprise.
Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 20:14Reply
@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 The bottom line at the end of all this I my opinion is that as you had a booking and weren’t a walk in, I don’t think you had a reason to be surprised once you were asked to free up the table after the 2 hour slot when the next booking arrived.
Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 20:00Reply
@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 I see. Popular Stoke Newington pubs like the Three Crowns, Rose & Crowns, The Axe, The Prince and the Londesborough for example are bookings only on Sunday as far as I’m aware due to high demand. Walk in possible only if there’s last min cancellation in my experience.
Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 19:53Reply
@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 But how do they take bookings if there’s no time limit and therefore there are no time bound slots you allocate bookings to?
Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 19:34Reply
@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 Do those pubs take bookings? How do they manage bookings if there’s no time limit and people can camp for as long as they want??
Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 19:27Original
Is a 2-hour time limit on a pub table booking on Sunday unusual? Not the case in London Fields it would appear from the retweet below, but it’s something I have come to expect in Stoke Newington’s popular pubs that do Sunday roast. x.com/artdirectionk/…

Sun 29 Jan 2023 · 19:02Reply
@artdirectionk @threecrownsn16 Did you expect more than a 2 hour slot for pub lunch on a busy Sunday? I agree it should have been communicated upon booking or when you were shown to your table, but it shouldn’t have come as a total surprise as well in my view. It’s the standard in my experience.

@CrispinTruman This was TfL’s plan from 2018 for the High St which didn’t go ahead in 2020 because of the pandemic-related funding issues. It would have kept the High St one-way for vehicles expect buses, but make Evering Rd, Brooke Rd and Northwold Rd two-way. It’s not on the horizon. https://t.co/BvFpbqNpUp

@felixmort Exactly. Disruptions happen on main roads now and then but it’s nowhere near a case of the High St being gridlocked daily as some who don’t like traffic calming measures claim. There’s a also a thing called “rush hour traffic” for a reason, and even then it’s not gridlocked.

@GoonerN16 People clearly have different perceptions and observations as I don’t see a complete gridlock like in the footage unless there’s an unusual disruption up ahead, typically Thames Water roadworks. It’s a busy A road, especially during the evening rush hour, but traffic is flowing.

@OurEastLondon By the way, I doubt anyone claims there isn’t significant traffic displacement anywhere at all that needs to be addressed, a point the mayor touched on. It’s whether those instances are the exception or the norm, which people disagree on. My observation is it’s the exception.

@SharedGround I agree. I’m there daily and my observation is that traffic flows uninterrupted 95% of the time unless there’s the odd collision or roadworks and then there are delays but that was always the case. Are those infrequent delays worse post-LTN? Marginally at best I’d say.

@Schopflin @charlotte_gggg @CalumR91 The main point is that if someone’s mum lives relatively nearby (2 miles or less) then they should consider other modes instead of driving. It’s the many short car journeys that LTNs are primarily designed to discourage. Data here is from: content.tfl.gov.uk/technical-note… https://t.co/c9UEvTd722

@charlotte_gggg @CalumR91 The long term view, that’s supported by research, is that over time people will drive less, mainly for short journeys (less than 2 miles). Astonishingly, a LOT of car journeys are that short. thecityfix.com/blog/traffic-e….
