@brianbarou @jchermier You are missing the point: All Stoke Newington Church St addresses and nearby parking spaces are accessible to those that need to drive here. The reality though, is that the street is packed and buzzing on weekends as it always has been if not more now it’s more pleasant.

Businesses close all the time for many reasons. Approx. 50% of businesses in Church St change during a decade since 1890!

Businesses struggle these days for various reasons (inflation, energy bills increase etc.). Church St is a popular local shopping street and a weekend destination. Come and visit and see

@DocklessLondon Than obstructing someone’s front door? Both are unacceptable but I’d say that taking something without paying for it just pips it for me. Theft is a crime. Parking a bike outside someone’s house in an inconsiderate manner isn’t last time I checked, or is it??

@DocklessLondon I also don’t think they care :) council’s like Hackney are committed to active travel and people Liming has great benefits and is a very good PR for the right reasons. The problem is it’s not perfect and managing how dockless bikes are parked is a massive challenge.

@DocklessLondon One though is likely illegal just like shoplifting, is it not? My view is that someone that takes something without paying for it is more morally bankrupt than someone that parks a bike outside an elderly person’s front door, which is of course totally unacceptable.

@DocklessLondon I could be wrong by I refer to a dumped bike as poor behaviour rather than a matter of right and wrong and something that’s more principled. Taking something without paying for it, knowing full well you’re required to pay for it, is “wrong”, it’s not just poor behaviour/conduct.

@DocklessLondon I don’t think the fact Lime “doesn’t care” about how many of its bikes are parked in the middle of pavements gives some people justification to use those bikes without paying. They know you cannot just hop on a bike and that payment is required in order to use it.

@DocklessLondon I think you are conflating two unrelated things here. Dumping a bike in the middle of the pavement without thinking of others isn’t a morality issue. I don’t think it’s ‘morally wrong’. Using a paid service without paying for it i.e. unauthorised use, is.

@DocklessLondon Sorry, don’t know anymore where you are doing with this :) it’s a paid service. Just because it’s easy to bypass the payment and use the bike for free doesn’t justify it and I reckon anyone over the age of 5 would know that.

@DocklessLondon But the ad is targeting those dump bikes in a way that creates an obstruction for pedestrians. Is an ad going to change such behaviour? Personally I doubt it very much. It’s a bit of PR for Lime to show they are aware of a problem they can’t or don’t want to fix. Not really.

Councils like Hackney rightly want to encourage people to adopt cycling (private or hire), especially as an alternative to short car journeys, so you want to keep the offering simple so people aren’t put off by it.

@DocklessLondon @DocklessObs @DocklessBikeMan Fundamentally though, you then create a docking station for a dockless bike hire service, so I’m not entirely sure if the two can coexist. People love the convenience of picking up a bike that might be outside your house, and leave it back there when you ride back.

@DocklessLondon @DocklessObs @DocklessBikeMan What about proximity detection (Bluetooth maybe?) so you can only end a ride if you are in close proximity to a bay or ideally inside it? If it gets you close enough you’re at least more likely to at least see the bay.

I refuse to believe all the ones that are dumped in the middle of pavements are those that were hacked and taken for a joyride.

It comes at a price to pedestrians in many cases, which is a real shame. They are very popular for a reason.

You can’t one in every street corner but it would benefit all cyclists and hopefully reduce inconsiderate dumping of Lime bikes.

@david_mccraw @SanneDD To add context, the Stoke Newington Church St Bus Gate is a 20metre stretch half way up the road that restricts daytime through traffic (7am-7pm) to buses and local Blue Badge holders. All other vehicles can access any address in the street but cannot drive through the Bus Gate.

@LoyTera @CalumR91 There was pavement widening last summer, where the road was wide enough, which has been great in my view. The width of the road varies quite a bit with the section between Lordship Rd and Albion Rd being quite narrow, so limited pavement widening there. Better than nothing.

@ldner The underlying point is that road closures is nothing new, and has been driven by different reasons over the years. Even a road that closed because of kerb crawlers creates other benefits e.g. less rat-running, quiet, safer and less polluted street.

@timinenfield That’s my view, though on the weekend these days it definitively feels like a tourist destination for people from across the borough and further afield. There’s great buzz in the spring and summer during weekends when the street really comes alive. It’s terrific.

@LizLeBrets One update a few months ago from the park manager included how one of the toilets was completely trashed and broken and an instance where a toilet was completely blocked with sand/dirt, which seemed very deliberate.

@LizLeBrets Broken windows in Clissold House and damage to the toilets often comes up in the park manager’s update in the public user group meetings. Regarding the lakes, best to ask @clissoldpeople who can hopefully get an answer from the park management.
