Is the expectation that cyclists stop when they see someone about to cross or just slow down to allow to them to cross safely? What does “priority” mean here exactly?

@Microlambert Ok. Got it. Thanks. But given the width of the Church St in most section it would make it look like a single lane for vehicles, no? Does it meet the minimum width requirement for such solution beyond the small section between the fire station and Defoe Road?

@Microlambert Again, cycling in Church St I never have to use the bell or avoid people walking carefree in the middle of the road unlike in Nevill Road, Oldfield Road and other backstreets in the area where that was often the case. People just walking in the middle of the road.

@Microlambert But there’s isn’t sufficient road space in most of Church St for a cycle path surely, or is the idea that vehicles are permitted to use it too if there aren’t cyclists?

@RorthronTheWise @Microlambert If anything, after the Bus Gate was installed someone suggested removing the traffic lights in Church St. They were only added in the early 2000s by the way.

@RorthronTheWise @Microlambert It mostly narrow than not. Sounds like fixing a problem that doesn’t really exist in my opinion and creating a bigger one with traffic being held more often than it is already with the existing traffic lights.

@Microlambert Is it really needed given low traffic during the Bus Gate hours? Also, the width of the road changes quite considerably with the road being narrower west of the Bus Gate.

That doesn’t mean anything in terms of whether pets such as dogs can be off lead, especially as since then it has become a historic cemetery and nature reserve.

@karinacomms @AbneyParkN16 @HeritageFundUK Wrong. It’s not a “small park”. It’s a 31-acre historic cemetery (60,000 graves with 200,000 people buried in them), which also a nature reserve. It’s expensive to maintain hence why revenue generating opportunities like the chapel are desperately needed to keep it going.

@karinacomms @AbneyParkN16 You’re making an unfounded assumption that a critical mass of visitors with dogs to the park will no longer step foot in Abney. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Personally, I doubt the impact will be as detrimental as you describe, but like you, I’m only making an assumption.

@London_UXD Definitely. Every proposed change to anything often leads to an online petition with about 1,500 signatures plus often a few shouty, angry people venting on Twitter and then the change is made and life goes on.

@London_UXD It’s a control order, not a banning order -> ‘Dog Control Public Space Protection Order’, but some people that don’t like the idea prefer to refer to it as a ‘ban’. It’s about controlling dogs. By the way, dogs ARE banned from Woodberry Wetlands; another local nature reserve.

@CrowMonthly Some people take a very “my dog” centric view of things and don’t seem interested in any evidence or argument that goes against what they feel they should be entitled to do.

@arsenal55559 You are missing the point of how academic studies work and the whole idea behind observing a phenomenon, such as negative impact of dogs off-lead on nature reserves, and concluding the same impact will likely be observed in other, similar settings.

@TheAzzo I doubt anyone would dispute that but what I'm still not clear on the issue here. Won't they be allowed to apply to run the refurbished cafe if it goes to tender? That's often how the council operates (see Clissold Park, Abney Park).
