@hcknyrbl I strongly recommend visiting Stoke Newington Church Street on a nice, warm weekend, though it's difficult to make your way because it gets busy, with many people filling the pavement. Thankfully parts of the pavement were widened two years ago!! :)

@hcknyrbl There are 115 businesses in the street, including a lot of one-offs such as a bakery, fishmonger, butcher, 2nd hand bookshop, jeweller, kitchenware, violin shop and much more. How more “vibrant” do you want to be?? Compared to what other street for example? Oxford St?? ;)

@hcknyrbl As someone who is familiar with some of the stories behind certain business closures, I can tell you there are many different, often personal reasons, why a business owner calls it a day. Some retire, sadly die, fall ill, seek change in lifestyle/working hours, move away etc.

@hcknyrbl I completely object to it. Churn is a fundamental aspect of a shopping street. If you examine the data, you'll see that over the last 130 years, churn has consistently been at 50% over a span of 10 years. You focus on what you see and know now. Just look at the data.

@thenewlove Yes. Corrochio’s is a seatdown restaurant rather than a market stall. It replaced a double-fronted off-licence that I doubt many people will notice is now gone. I hope they do well. Much welcomed variety in that part of Stoke Newington Road in my opinion.
