@elliebarr8 @clissoldpeople Testing and repair work if needed should happen in the winter, autumn. It could be an issue with the contractor inspecting and repairing it, issue getting parts etc. in year 1 there was a delay getting a pump from Italy.

@elliebarr8 @clissoldpeople The paddling pool was as “available” as the splash pad. Booking the splash pad is free and with 50% walk-ins, getting in is a rarely an issue. At best you have to wait a bit to avoid overcrowding. It just needs to work and be open when it’s meant to.

@elliebarr8 @clissoldpeople Those questions are now irrelevant though as it’s been constructed and the operating model established. The issue is the unexpected downtime. The old paddling pool would also get closed due to vandalism and technical or water issues.

@_this_happens I think the key question is whether what appears to be frequent downtime due to technical faults is expected for a splash pad, or if in this case it is the result of substandard maintenance, materials, or equipment, pumps etc. used to construct it.

@_this_happens I doubt it was expected to malfunction every year. I’ve no idea if it’s faulty conservation or poor maintenance that led to it not functioning, but there benefits to a splash pad over a paddling pool: Safety, hygiene, accessibility, water conservation, interactive play etc.

@SharedGround It’s not an art piece. In my observation, when it does work children absolutely love it and it’s always packed, when they manage to get it to work ;)

@elliebarr8 @clissoldpeople Irrespective of the splash pad, we were told the 90-year-old paddling pool was expensive to maintain, used a lot of water, and needed to be emptied every time a child had an “accident” or when a broken bottle was spotted in the water. It was deemed no longer fit for purpose.
