@HayleyW35437130 @thenewlove @sfajanathomas The issue is that installing obstacles, such as planters or bollards, would likely render it inaccessible for prams and wheelchairs.
Wed 18 Jun 2025 · 12:58Reply
@HayleyW35437130 @thenewlove @sfajanathomas I think that, sadly, you’ll often get that with an alleyway off a main, busy road. It’s a real shame, as the garden is a lovely spot away from all the noise, but some people ruin it for everyone else.
Wed 18 Jun 2025 · 12:54Reply
@thenewlove @HayleyW35437130 @sfajanathomas I feel that more and more people now cycle on pavements in general, not just kids on clicking Lime bikes, so hoping they won’t cycle through Kynaston Avenue seems futile to me.

@thenewlove @HayleyW35437130 @sfajanathomas According to the local councillors residents (no idea how many and for how long) have raised this as an issue. Personally, I don’t think such advisory, unenforceable sign will make any difference whatsoever.

@ChrisHa21736755 @HistoryOfStokey It must have a present day designation though. There were originally a few cottages where the garden is and it was always an alleyway and never a road open to traffic. As it's not a shared-use path, it must therefore must be a pavement/footpath so cycling not permitted.
Mon 16 Jun 2025 · 09:39Reply
@ChrisHa21736755 “In legal terms, a footpath and a pavement (often called a “footway” beside a road) are generally treated the same when it comes to cycling: cycling is not permitted on either unless specifically allowed by signage or law.”
Mon 16 Jun 2025 · 09:38Reply
@ChrisHa21736755 However, in the case of Kynaston Avenue, I cannot find whether that alleyway is legally classified by the council as a footpath or not. Even though it connect two roads, as an alleyway, I’d thought it’s like pavement.
Mon 16 Jun 2025 · 09:36Reply
@ChrisHa21736755 “A public footpath in England and Wales is legally defined as a route where the public has a right of way on foot. The right of access permits walking, running, and the use of mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs, but not cycling, horse riding, or use by vehicles.”
Sun 15 Jun 2025 · 09:45Reply
@Roger89835988 Isn’t Kynaston Avenue legally a footpath? Meaning pedestrians only? As it’s not a shared-use path then by law as I read it, cyclists aren’t allowed to use it so shouldn’t it have the “cycling prohibited” sign?
Sun 15 Jun 2025 · 09:34Reply
@Roger89835988 In theory, could Kynaston Avenue be a shared path? Or is it possibly too narrow for that? Seeing as how the council is keen to promote cycling in the borough I wonder if it was considered as a more practical solution, with pedestrian priority like New River Path for example.
Sun 15 Jun 2025 · 09:32Reply
@ChrisHa21736755 Why is it ‘technically a road’ rather than a footpath? Because it’s also used by cyclists? From what I can find, in the UK, a road is any public way accessible to various types of traffic, while a footpath is a specific public right of way legally reserved for use on foot only.

@angelab2711 This is the last plan I’d seen. All vehicles will be able to go from Crossway to Newington Green but only buses can to Crossway beyond Pellerin Rd. Other vehicles will only be able to go as far as Pellerin Road, not beyond to Dalston and Mildmay. https://t.co/MM7pcL2YRO

@angelab2711 I don’t know I’m afraid. The removal of the parking bays according to Islington will improve journey time on the 236 with less congestion in Boleyn Road. Bus Gate I understand coming afterwards. Can’t imagine it’ll be open to taxis and deliveries. Only buses, possible exemptions.
