There were originally a few cottages where the garden is and it was always an alleyway and never a road open to traffic. As it's not a shared-use path, it must therefore must be a pavement/footpath so cycling not permitted.

@Roger89835988 In theory, could Kynaston Avenue be a shared path? Or is it possibly too narrow for that? Seeing as how the council is keen to promote cycling in the borough I wonder if it was considered as a more practical solution, with pedestrian priority like New River Path for example.

@ChrisHa21736755 Why is it ‘technically a road’ rather than a footpath? Because it’s also used by cyclists? From what I can find, in the UK, a road is any public way accessible to various types of traffic, while a footpath is a specific public right of way legally reserved for use on foot only.

@angelab2711 Every address is and will be reachable by any vehicle so deliveries etc. will need to rely, as always, on their mapping app to show them the journey considering old and new traffic restrictions.

@angelab2711 The Church St Bus Gate was introduced in Sep 2021 for example and there are no exemptions for deliveries and taxis, uber etc. same for other Hackney bus gates as far as I’m aware. There’s Blue Badge exemption for some Bus Gates in Hackney.

@angelab2711 My pleasure. One of the alternative journeys would be to get from Newington Green to Balls Pond Road, Southgate Road, Englefield Road and then Kingsland Road to get to Stoke Newington Road. Or Balls Pond Rd to Bentley Rd and then Kingsland High St.

@angelab2711 I don’t know I’m afraid. The removal of the parking bays according to Islington will improve journey time on the 236 with less congestion in Boleyn Road. Bus Gate I understand coming afterwards. Can’t imagine it’ll be open to taxis and deliveries. Only buses, possible exemptions.

@xbtsolana A southbound bus gate is coming next on Boleyn Road/Pellerin Road so only buses will be able to go southbound towards Crossway. Other vehicles will be able to come from Crossway to Boleyn towards Newington Green.
